Deep Cleaning Highbury Health and Safety Policy
Deep Cleaning Highbury is committed to providing professional cleaning services in a manner that protects the health, safety and welfare of our employees, clients, visitors and members of the public. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our principles, responsibilities and procedures for maintaining a safe working environment across all properties where we operate.
Policy Statement and Objectives
Our objective is to prevent accidents, injuries and work-related ill health by identifying hazards, assessing risks and implementing effective controls. We aim to continually improve our health and safety performance and integrate safe working practices into every aspect of our cleaning operations, including deep cleans, regular maintenance cleans, end of tenancy work, office cleaning and specialist treatments.
All managers, supervisors, cleaners and contractors are required to co-operate in implementing this policy and to ensure that health and safety considerations are never compromised for speed or convenience.
Management Responsibilities
Management at Deep Cleaning Highbury has overall responsibility for health and safety. This includes:
Ensuring that this policy is implemented, maintained and periodically reviewed. Providing appropriate resources for health and safety, including training, equipment, protective clothing and supervision. Conducting regular risk assessments for the different types of cleaning tasks and environments in which we operate, such as residential blocks, commercial premises and communal areas. Establishing and enforcing safe systems of work for the use of cleaning products, machinery and access equipment. Investigating incidents, near misses and reported hazards, and implementing corrective actions where necessary.
Employee Responsibilities
Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their work. All employees are expected to:
Follow the company’s health and safety procedures and safe working practices at all times. Use equipment, machinery and personal protective equipment correctly and report any defects immediately. Handle and store cleaning chemicals in accordance with training and product safety data. Report accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions or concerns to their supervisor without delay. Co-operate with management in the investigation of incidents and implementation of improved safety measures.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Deep Cleaning Highbury undertakes risk assessments for typical cleaning tasks carried out in client locations. These assessments consider hazards such as slips, trips and falls, manual handling, working at height, electrical equipment, exposure to cleaning chemicals and biological contaminants.
Based on these assessments, safe systems of work are implemented, including:
Clear procedures for mopping, vacuuming, machine scrubbing and polishing floors to minimise slip risks. Guidance on safe lifting and carrying of equipment and materials, including the use of trolleys where appropriate. Controls for working on steps or ladders during high-level dusting or window cleaning where applicable. Rules for safe use, inspection and storage of electrical cleaning equipment. Specific precautions for deep cleaning in kitchens, bathrooms and high-traffic communal areas.
Chemical Safety and COSHH
The cleaning products used by Deep Cleaning Highbury are selected and used in accordance with manufacturer instructions and relevant safety requirements. Where required, assessments are carried out for substances that may be hazardous if not controlled properly.
Key measures include:
Using only authorised cleaning chemicals and ensuring they remain in their original labelled containers. Providing information and training on correct dilution, application and disposal of products. Ensuring adequate ventilation where strong cleaning agents are used, especially during deep cleans and sanitising treatments. Providing appropriate personal protective equipment such as gloves and eye protection when necessary. Never mixing chemicals and promptly reporting any accidental spillages or exposures.
Personal Protective Equipment
Personal protective equipment is provided where risks cannot be adequately controlled by other means. Depending on the task and environment, this may include gloves, aprons, eye protection, masks or other items.
Employees are required to use protective equipment as instructed, keep it in good condition and report any damage or loss so that it can be replaced. Management is responsible for ensuring that equipment is suitable, properly fitted and maintained.
Training, Supervision and Competence
Deep Cleaning Highbury provides appropriate training and information to all employees so that they can carry out their work safely and competently. This includes induction training on health and safety procedures, task specific training for deep cleaning methods and ongoing refreshers where required.
Supervisors monitor working practices on site to ensure that procedures are followed and that any unsafe behaviour or conditions are corrected promptly. Additional instruction is given when new equipment, products or methods are introduced.
Accidents, Incidents and First Aid
All accidents, incidents and near misses that occur during cleaning operations must be reported to a supervisor as soon as possible. Details are recorded to help identify causes and prevent recurrence.
Employees are informed of the arrangements for first aid at each client site, including the location of first aid equipment where this is provided by the client. Where appropriate, work is stopped and the area made safe before any further cleaning continues.
Client Cooperation and Shared Responsibilities
Health and safety is a shared responsibility between Deep Cleaning Highbury and our clients. We ask clients to inform us of any known hazards at their premises, such as damaged flooring, restricted access areas or building works, and to ensure that our staff have safe access to the areas that need cleaning.
Where cleaning is carried out outside normal working hours, clients are requested to ensure that security and lighting arrangements support safe working. Clear communication helps us adapt our methods to each property while maintaining a high standard of safety.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed regularly to ensure that it remains effective and reflects current working practices and legal requirements. Feedback from employees and clients, together with incident reports and inspections, is used to improve our procedures and training.
Deep Cleaning Highbury is committed to maintaining a culture where safety is integral to high quality cleaning services. By working together, we aim to deliver thorough, reliable and safe cleaning for every property we attend.
